Task Description: Today in literacy we learned about space. Our second task was to learn about Samoa and make a poster about Samoa. We had to write down the things we researched! The Performing Arts, The Locations, The Tattoos and some sentences about Samoa.

Mrs Ilaoa: Leadership Week 4

Task Description: Today we did literacy! It wasn't normal at all because the year 7's had to go down to the beach to go finish of their goat island experience. We had to do our literacy work in our home classes but since my home teacher wasn't with us, we had to go with Mrs Tele'a. We have to 3 options that we wanted to do.

Task Description: 

Today we did Inquiry, we did a task called my leadership goals. In this task we have to write down how we are stepping up and showing leadership and how our leadership goals.

Fractions of A Set

Task Description: Today in maths we did fractions. We have to use our multiplication facts to work out and solve mixed and improper fractions. My technique was to see how much of the denominator can go into the numerator to solve the problem. 

Year 8 Camp Poster: Key Words

Task Description: Today in literacy we had to recount our writing about our Year 8 Leadership Camp. We have to go on a google drawing and write down the key words from the camp. We had this camp to step up and be a leader. In this camp It's to go beyond your comfort zone and to show leadership.

Year 8 Experience.

This is going to be one of my memories to cherish. This is going to be a long blog as I want to introduce and explain my features and my experience from year 8 camp.

I was really nervous when we arrived! I was so confused which one was my cabin although I knew who was in my cabin. I was in a cabin with 9 other people plus me which would equal 10. 

Our first sleep was really terrible! well for the boys at least. The girls had a good sleep but not the boys, let's say it was a really rough first sleep. I couldn't sleep from all the noises for the next 2 cabins, my whole cabin woke up from the noises and we were all frustrated. 

My first highlight has to defiantly be go-karts. My whole team Thames B went go-karts, we all had 2 turns. Our team was really encouraging and helpful, we cheered each other on, encouraged and screamed go! to the person that's going. We all had 2 turns even if we didn't want to have a go. My second highlight has to also be the meals or food we should say. I loved how the chefs used up all their time to cook for all the year 8's. The chefs really did get my attention. They cooked the meals perfectly, I really enjoyed eating food made by their hands. 

My third highlight is the gym. The first day of our camp our first activity was in the gym. All 4 teams had to make a chant for their group. The tutors explained the 3 or 4 activities that we did. The activities were called Cross-games. My favourite activity was when you drag the your lightest teammates on a mat and the 2 strongest have to drag you on the side around the 4 big tires. When the timer has run out all the team teachers have to tell the tutors how many times their group went around the tires.

Task Description: Today in maths we did Equivalent Fractions.

I am not really good at fractions, I enjoyed doing these fractions.

What planets are there? - Solar System

 

Task Description: 

This is a literacy and planet based task. This task was not so challenging but was really easy at the same time. I learned so much about the planets, I couldn't do all planets but I did around 3 or 4. I really enjoyed doing this task as It was really easy to do.

In this task we had to put all the planets in order from smallest to biggest and I also had to a write a sentence to remember the planet orders. I did long sentences instead because I wanted to express my knowledge about the planets with you, I showed all my ideas and facts.

What is the Earth?

Task Description: Today for inquiry we learnt about Earth, and the four spheres. We also learnt about the Geo-sphere and the biosphere. Biosphere is the life living things like animals and humans. The geosphere is about the land. Hydrosphere is about all the waters and the atmosphere is the gravity and the environment of Earth.

Noa'ia! That's Hello! In the Rotuma Language.My information report today will share with you some important facts and things I found about the islands of Rotuma.

Rotuma is located in the Southern Hemisphere. To the north of Rotuma is Tuvalu, to the east is Samoa, and to the south is Fiji. West of Rotuma is Vanuatu.

There are less than 3,000 people living on Rotuma. Many more of the population live on the Island Fiji.
There are only 3 languages that are spoken. Rotuman language and English and Fijian.

Fact:
It is 2,715 km from Auckland to Rotuma.

Learning about Rotuma made me think how my culture like how I am half-samoan. 
It has been really exciting that I got to learn new things about the Island of Rotuma. I learnt about the population, the islands near and the languages they speak.

Building A Boat: Floating Task

Task Description: Today we did a boat making competition. We had to try and make the animal survive and try not to make our boat sink. There were 7 groups of 4. I was in a group of, Kris, Jane & Kauri. We all worked together and made our boat not sink. This activity was so fun! My group worked really well and we all listened, showed respect and all listened to each other ideas. End results 

Fractions Recap: Maths T2 W1

Task Description: This is an maths based task. Today we did fractions. We had to use numerators and denominators and decimals, etc. I learned how to use numerators and denominators in year 4. We had to think and see what would be the same as the other. I worked with my 2 buddies Sauma and Rae Jae.

Immersion Assembly: Watch This Space, Guardians of The Galaxy

Task Description: Today my literacy class and I had to create a poster, a poster of key words of our favourite theme that we saw in the Immersion Assembly. My favourite Team was Team Four, It was about Guardians of The Galaxy! I've watched the movie so many times, I really enjoyed watching their parody of the remake of the real movie. It entertained me.

Extra Questions:

My favourite team was The Guardians of The Galaxy from Team Four. Point England does these different special assemblies to refresh a new term. There will be four special terms at the start of a new term. All the teachers will have to prevent and make up a play or song to perform or watch.

Task Description: Today in literacy I had to make a google drawing about the immersion assembly. We had to pick one Team that made us feel entertained a term that made us laugh and enjoy what we we're observing. I picked Team 4, it was about The Guardians of The Galaxy. I wrote sentences about why it entertained me. I enjoyed what I was seeing and I can't wait to see for the next 2 terms, see what the teachers got.
